Columbia, Maryland Chapter
Continental Societies, Incorporated
Continental Societies, Inc. (CSI) is an Inter-national public service organization dedicated to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of children and youth, especially disadvantaged youngsters. Founded in June 1956, CSI has served over one million children and youth. CSI has 43 chapters in 17 states in the Continental USA, District of Columbia and Bermuda. The current National President is W. Chris Stewart.
The Columbia, Maryland Chapter was chartered on June 13, 1992 under the leadership of Ethel B. Hill, founder of the Columbia, Chapter. Our chapter embraces the mission of the National Organization to create environments within our communities that empower children to have access to quality and appropriate opportunities to reach their optimal potential. Over the past 18 years, the Columbia Chapter has served over 8,500 children residing in Howard County.
Our programs and projects focus on CSI’s five-point HEER plus Arts and Humanities initiatives. Our chapter sponsors programs and activities related to Health, Education, Employment, Recreation, and Arts and Humanities Initiatives and generously share our resources, talents, time and skills through volunteerism. Our chapter’s commitment to improve the quality of life for children and youth in Howard County started with two projects: a Book Fair/Read-A-Thon at the Roger Carter Neighborhood Center in Ellicott City, MD and a comprehensive support program for young girls sent to the Children’s Center in Laurel, MD.
Fundraisers, corporate sponsorships/donations and solicitation of grants finance all programs and projects.
